GIANCARLO LLERENA
Biography

New York-based Peruvian American, Giancarlo Llerena is a pianist and teaching artist recognized for his versatility across concert performance and collaboration.
He has appeared on prestigious stages across the United States and Europe, including Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the Kravis Center, the New World Center, and Teatro Angelo Mariani, among others. Recent highlights include performances with violinist Joshua Bell, soprano Larisa Martinez, composer-violinist Jessie Montgomery, an appearance opening for Apple TV’s “Severance” Emmy’s event at Bell Works, and performing Carnival of the Animals with the Syracuse Orchestra. He was also featured in the North American premiere of Georg Friedrich Haas’s “11,000 Strings” in collaboration with the Klangforum Wien, a production named one of the “Best Classical Performances of 2025” by the New York Times. In 2026, he appears in residence at the Georg Solti Accademia in Venice and at the Opéra-Comique in Paris.
Giancarlo has earned recognition through top prizes in competitions such as the National Youngarts Competition, and has attended the Tanglewood Institute and the Aspen Music Festival on full scholarship. Additionally, in increasing demand with singers as a recitalist and coach, he was recently invited as a 2025 Fellowship Pianist for Classic Lyric Arts, where he coached and performed with singers across Italy and France. His artistry has been enriched through masterclasses with leading performers including Hilary Hahn, Jessie Montgomery, Isabel Leonard, Rohan de Silva, Itzhak Perlman, David Finckel, and Jean-Yves Thibaudet.

Beyond the stage, Giancarlo is deeply committed to arts accessibility, dedicating efforts through the Gluck Community Service Fellowship, the Morse Teaching Artist Fellowship, and the Music Advancement Program Teaching Fellowship at The Juilliard School, in addition to his work with the educational non-profit Harmony Program as a choir pianist and coach. Believing in music’s ability to bridge people across backgrounds, his work emphasizes connection, creative freedom, and community engagement.

Giancarlo is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Collaborative Piano at Juilliard as a proud recipient of the Kovner Fellowship, under the tutelage of Lydia Brown and Brian Zeger. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance with Academic Honors from Juilliard, studying with Veda Kaplinsky and Julian Martin. Giancarlo is a proud Steinway & Sons Educational Partner.
